Clothing Collection

The Clothing Collection is a free collection of clothes, accessories, cosmetics, hygiene items, and pet supplies (cat food, dog food, litter) offered to the trans & nonbinary community. This collection is supplied entirely by donations and organized by Brave Space. Anyone in the trans & nonbinary community can visit the Clothing Collection in our office during open hours, no appointment necessary. We offer space for folks to try on clothes, supply bags to carry items, and provide accommodations and information when requested. All we ask is that visitors respect the space and the people in it.

Radical Rest

As part of our Police Brutality Community Response, some of Brave Space's providers participated in Radical Rest, a short-term collective of healers offering free wellness services for "BIPOC organizers, leaders, protesters, agitators and liberators." These services were available from June 19th to June 26, 2020. Please visit the Radical Rest website for more information:

Feast & Frolic with PDX Nonbinary Collective

On February 8, 2020, PDX Nonbinary Collective and Brave Space cohosted Feast & Frolic, a LGBTQ+ community potluck and social outing. We gathered at Q Center for social time over a community meal, and then moved to downtown to attend the Winter Lights Festival, an annual winter holiday event near the waterfront that features the latest light-art innovations and technology.

Voice Lessons with The Wellness Group for Voice, Speech and Swallowing

Between January 15, 2020 and March 25, 2020, The Wellness Group for Voice, Speech and Swallowing hosted group vocal coaching for the trans & nonbinary community at Brave Space. This 8-course program was taught by licensed speech-language therapists Aaron Zeigler and Jennifer Gill.

Parent & Caregiver Support Group

Between February 6, 2020 and March 13, 2020 (when Brave Space started shifting to telehealth in response to COVID-19), Brave Space hosted Parent & Caregiver Support Group, a support group for all caregivers of trans & nonbinary people, facilitated by Brave Space counselors Leslie Yeargers and Helix Holman. Parent/Caregiver Community Group was a non-clinical support group for parents and other caregivers of trans and nonbinary loved ones. The group was open to drop-ins and run on donations.

Free Haircuts with Jules Heron

On February 21, Jules Heron of Hair for Humans offered free hair cuts for the trans and nonbinary community. Folks in the community were invited to sign up and Jules provided 3 1/2 hours of affirming service. This event was originally scheduled as a monthly offer; if possible, we will bring this event back when the office is open to the public again.

Eating Disorder Support Group

Between August 19, 2019 and October 28, 2019, Brave Space hosted Eating Disorder Support Group, a support group for trans & nonbinary adults interested in recovery, in partial recovery, or in full recovery from an eating disorder, facilitated by Brave Space counselors Bee Norris and Cambria Beirow. This group offered support for navigating body dysphoria and eating disorders, with the goal of "building our authentic selves while creating a new relationship with our bodies." This group was available for $35 per session and could be covered by OHP insurance plans.

QTPOC Support Group with Cole Prophet 

Between August 20, 2019 and November 12, 2019, Cole Prophet of Intersections Counseling hosted QTPOC Support Group at Brave Space. QTPOC Support Group was a non-clinical support and social group for all queer, trans and nonbinary people of color. The group was free and open to drop-ins.

Hot Meals & Gender Feels

On December 16, 2019, Oregon Food Bank hosted Hot Meals & Gender Feels at Brave Space. Hot Meals & Gender Feels was a social and resource event for the trans and nonbinary community. Johnnie Shaver of Oregon Food Bank connected community members with free produce & groceries, a hot meal, and assistance signing up for Link2Feed, Oregon's primary food pantry intake system.

Brave Space Open House

On July 28, 2019​, Brave Space hosted an Open House in a new office! The public was invited to come see the new space, meet and mingle with providers over snacks & beverages, shop the free Clothing Collection, apply for the Brave Space Scholarship, check our our group/community room.
