Philosophy and Approach: Hi there! My name is Rani, and I am a clinical supervisor and therapist here at Brave Space, LLC. I’m a biracial cis woman whose training is in the field of social work. For the past 4 years, I’ve focused on clinical social work, though I’ve been working in the field for a decade. I am a highly relational therapist who aims to bring my authentic self to the therapeutic space. I bring warmth, kindness, and transparency into the therapeutic relationship. I know that, while therapy is not the solution to ending systemic issues, it can be a space for reflection, honesty, and transformative healing. I also honor the strengths, as well as the complexities, of turning to community for support and care. I base my practice in trauma-informed, client-centered models of care with a social justice lens. I am someone who lives with an active chronic illness. This means that there may be times I have to cancel sessions. This also means that I’m uniquely able to understand what it is like to live with an active chronic illness while navigating the medical system.

Formal Education and Training:  I attended Portland State University for graduate school, where I received my MSW with a focus on clinical social work. I have since worked in community mental health settings working with teens and young adults experiencing first episode psychosis and adults experiencing trauma responses, depression, anxiety, psychosis, and mania. I am currently working towards a certification in EMDR.

As a licensee of the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers, I will abide by its Code of Ethics.  In accordance with Oregon Health Administration OHA guidelines my work at Brave Space is supervised by Anjuli Shah-Johnson, LCSW, and Kate Kauffman, LPC.  You may contact Kate at 503-389-5801 with any questions or concerns.

Hours and Session Length:  I see clients Tuesdays through Fridays at the address listed above and clients may call or email to schedule appointments. Individual sessions are 50 minutes in duration, usually once a week. In order for counseling to be effective, it is important to attend all regularly scheduled appointments. If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment please notify us 24 hours in advance if possible. Missing two consecutive appointments without notification could result in loss of your regular slot or ending services. You are free to terminate services at will; however, it is usually most therapeutic to schedule a closing session.

Payment: Most clients seen at Brave Space are using OHP insurance, which pays for most of the session fees.  You may have a $3 copay.  Clients are fully responsible for the payment of all copays for services at the time of service, and if insurance ends, must discuss client payment for ongoing service. Checks, credit cards, and cash are accepted forms of payment and payable at the beginning of the session. Fees are $167 for a 50-minute session.
