Philosophy and Approach:
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I’m excited that you have decided to continue along your healing journey and found your way to Brave Space. I operate from a humanistic, anti-oppressive, strengths-based framework through a non-judgmental lens that will support your own intuitive exploration of who you are in the world. I am committed to providing gender and identity affirming care that allows for safe exploration to become closer to your true self. I also have a strong focus in trauma recovery and how the brain and nervous system have learned to adapt to keep you safe. We will connect about how your experiences have shaped thoughts about yourself, behaviors, and emotions, and how these create barriers for the goals you have in your life. I wholeheartedly believe in your ability to be more connected with yourself and am excited to be with you on your journey.
I am white, queer, and non-binary. I am devoted to ongoing attention to my personal privilege and deepening awareness to mitigate any harm that may arise in therapy. I also live with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I share this to deepen our connection as a human being along a healing journey. I enjoy adventuring around the Pacific Northwest, spending time with my two kitties, and crafting.
Formal Training and Education: I have a Bachelors and Masters of Social Work from Portland State University. I have worked as a social worker with youth and adults in a variety of capacities for the past 8 years. I spent most of my formative years in social work in Portland’s Homeless Youth Continuum as a counselor and case manager. I worked closely with queer and gender expansive youth experiencing marginalization and trauma. Most recently I have worked closely with adults in the Old Town neighborhood experiencing houselessness, addiction, and severe and persistent mental illness. I am also a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and have extensive experience with substance use and recovery. I operate from a harm-reduction model, supporting people no matter where there are with their use and providing tools and resources to reduce risk.
